City Won’t Tell How Much It Spent on LRT Land: Patton


Bulldog commentator Mike Patton looks into the reasons behind why the City of Ottawa won’t release land-acquisitions and expropriations associated with the light-rail project.

Two years ago The Bulldog tried to get them and again the city refused. The attitude is odd. Essentially the city is saying we don’t have to release these figures so we won’t. An open government would just release the figures. What’s to hide? What’s to be gained by closed government?

Wonder why the city doesn’t want to tell the public how it is spending taxpayer money?

College Councillor Rick Chiarelli has filed an access to information request with the municipality to get the figures:

  1. Why indeed?

    Prior to the fall election, I’d like some of my tax money put towards calm summer evening public viewings of the movie Network so Ottawa voters can watch Peter Finch howl “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” That’ll get people riled up for sure.
