Emilie Taman, who ran for the NDP in Ottawa-Vanier last time the seat was open, has announced she’s going to run in the municipal election in Capital Ward, currently held by David Chernushenko.
Says Taman: “We need greater public accountability, increased public engagement in planning and development, evidenced-based decision making in public health, and a more consistent approach to environmental sustainability across city projects. Community safety and policing, transportation options that work for everyone, and the efficient and innovative delivery of city services are among the many issues which would benefit from robust public debate in the course of the municipal election campaign.”
Other than the momentum any incumbent has, I think Chernushenko might want to be a bit concerned about this one.
I think she _should_ have learned some things from two tries at Ottawa-Vanier (one, a loss under Mauril Belanger, and another when Mona Fortier won), and I don’t hold those losses much against her, given the safety of that riding as a Liberal stronghold.
We’ll see what she brings to the campaign table.
I don’t think Chernushenko has distinguished himself on council or with voters.
