Just turned the TV on and back off … I like to get a little news jolt while I am having my coffee.
I can not believe it, Harry and Meghan?
The topic was being covered on CBC (kinda expected) but it was on the U.S. channels and even CNN.
Is this really news? I think not

I’m not surprised the American networks are all over this. It seems their “class-free, egalitarian” society can’t get enough of the monarchy they rejected 240+ years ago. Particularly when one of their own is becoming a member of the Royal Family. Belief in a republic is only skin-deep, it appears!
It’s not every day that you see a girl grow up to realise her childhood dreams of becoming a real, live princess. Even if it does involve becoming related to Charlie!
Besides, if one doesn’t join in to watch the wedding, where does one wear one’s fascinator and sip tea at 6 am on a Saturday?May 18, 2018 at 2:21 PM #750857
In a society that is fascinated by celebrities (take a look at the TV channel guide if you need any evidence to support this conclusion) it is no surprise that two celebrities marrying is a topic of the day. I suspect that part of the fascination with this particular event is that it proves that Walt Disney was right. Any girl can marry a prince.
We just concluded a social event at the office, organized by our staff, 2/3 of whom are women between 25-35. The theme was an English Tea Party. The ladies wore “fascinators”, some of the gentlemen had top hats. With that as a background, I am with Ken on this. It is news.May 18, 2018 at 2:29 PM #750862
Despite being born in the UK I have little to no interest in the goings on of the Royal family. Too many hangers on, too regimented a lifestyle for me. However, if tourists want to spend money there seeing blue bloods go by in a gilded carriage who am I to object. What I find unusual is the level of interest here in Canada and the US for this archaic way of life. I often think ‘what would Monty Python’ think of it all.
Has anyone heard of Mayor Jimbo has been angling for an invite? That purveyor of froth news, Ben Mulroney, has gone I believe.May 18, 2018 at 2:31 PM #750864May 18, 2018 at 4:13 PM #750866

1. Thank god this “news” will finally end. Ken, Ron is something really news if it drags on for months and months with no change in plot other than a little family infighting and drama? Hopefully there are no babies planned for the next decade or so.
2. Voter. If you wait until 6 AM won’t you miss the show? I heard it’s all happening at 4 AM. Don’t want you to miss out.
3. Luke. “All the best for the royal couple” will certainly be preceded by “I’m Jim Watson and I’m the mayor of Ottawa”.May 19, 2018 at 12:55 AM #750933May 19, 2018 at 8:19 AM #750944
Well, I started this topic and I am back at it.
What are these numbers ?
Are they prime numbers ?
Could it be a Fibonacci sequence ?
Well – heck no. These are channels covering the royal wedding right at this moment.
And, just for the heck of it – type just the word ” harry ” into Google search.
Gawd save the queen and her off-spring.
