Pretty badly actually. Bad enough to really hurt him in the 2018 election if he runs.
Not only did he throw a wrench into the machinery of the largest redevelopment project in the history of Ottawa (and the related jobs and investments), he just alienated the hundreds of thousands of Ottawa Senators fans … some of whom vote.
But worst of all, at least from the mayor’s point of view, is that a lot of contributors to his election campaigns just lost a lot of business. That’s not the way those developer contributions are supposed to work.
Hmmm. Do you think a mayor running for re-election would cut off a huge part of his campaign funding?
It sounds like a bad mistake (which it is irrespective of campaign funding lost) or Watson is not running again.
