So the brave little match girl has thrown her hat into the ring. What comes next? If Ms. Mulroney wants to become premier, a few things will have to happen. First, she’s gonna have to figure out how to respond to criticisms both fair and unfair.
Cast your mind back to the early days of Justin Trudeau’s political life. Sun News Network had an almost pathological attachment to him, and Ezra Levant, now of the Rebel, couldn’t exhale without calling him “the prancing pony” or making snide remarks about him.
Trudeau’s response was to beat Patrick Brazeau like a rug and take a bit of a victory lap on Ezra.
Mulroney is going to get some well-deserved arrows aimed at her, and some cheap slings too. She better be ready.
Second, she better have a team that will be able to make it SEEM like they totally rewrote Brown’s platform (without actually rewriting it, because if they do a massive overhaul, there will be mistakes and traps, and her opposition will surely find them).
Third, she is gonna need to think about the “you had an option” moment, and be able to deliver it.
Fourth, she can look at her Kennedy namesake’s 2008 NY Senate campaign and not do anything that Caroline Kennedy did.
