I see our councillors offered up items for a 2067 Time Capsule that is being sealed for opening in 50 years to celebrate Canada’s 200th.

Lots of items in there, but my favourites are from Councillors Shad Qadri and Michael Qaqish: USB sticks. Oy gevalte.

Cast your mind back 50 years, to 1967. Know what state-of-the-art electronic storage was then? Eight-inch floppies with 80kb of memory. Now go find a disk drive that will read one of those. I’ll wait. That’s about how likely it will be that someone can read a USB key in 2067.

I’m sure they’re nice guys. But not tech geniuses.

Our friend Riley’s offering is a bottle of Mooney’s Bay sand to commemorate the playground. Is this his subtle way of announcing he’s not running again?
If that’s what he wants to draw attention to, he can’t seriously be thinking of facing the people in October.

    The Voter:

Riley would have stuck his head in the sand, if only he could get his head in the bottle. But all seriousness aside, Riley’s a politician… of course he’s going to run again.

I find these efforts by elected officials to memorialize their time in office to be a waste of effort. Do they really have so little to concern themselves with?

In response to Bob LeDrew’s comment. Not that bad if they pack the smallest PC they can find in the capsule as well. Although when the capsule is opened by the mayor (no doubt), he’ll probably note “Hey, cool dude, wonder what this is”.

And congratulations to Ron Benn whose response says it all.
