Gotta hand it to the Sens owner. Not just anybody can take the goodest of goodwill opportunities and turn it into a self-pitying whine.

Maybe if he had slapped a baby on the way out, he could have reached peak squander.

Mr. Melnyk merely called a spade a spade.

He was opining on what might or might not happen and he gave some of the thoughts that he is being forced to mull over.

    – spending big on salaries and the Sens getting to 3rd round of the playoffs and still not enough ticket sales.( means – So just how do I get sales up? )

    – a new downtown arena might not be a solution. (means – He’s not convinced that it’s a necessary thing )

“..it wouldn’t be a disaster for us if Le Breton didn’t happen.”
“You can’t keep spending at the top end and getting the lowest revenue.”
“If it doesn’t look good here, it could look very nice somewhere else..”

He has options that are his to consider. He did say he has no intentions of selling the club but Ottawa might not be its home.

This town has too many vegans so maybe I’ll open my steakhouse someplace else. 🙂

Just because something is on your mind doesn’t mean you blurt it out at the party. He let off a fart in an elevator. He might feel better for it, but his fellow travelers don’t. There’s a time and a place for all discussions. This wasn’t it.

I think Melnyk’s timing was perfect with all the media attention the game received and his message was there for everybody to judge.

Talking ‘hockey’ at a hockey games seems pretty appropriate to me.

Bob, Melnyk had a chance to get the fans attention and he got it.

    This is basic business.

People show or the teams goes.

Melnyk has probably lost $150 million in operating cash on this team.

I think that gives the right to sound off now and then.

Many other owners would have left by now.
