I was so excited to see Ottawa curler John Morris win a gold medal and then I saw Steve Simmons write: Mixed doubles curling is an Olympic sham.

Simmons could not be more wrong. Olympic officials made it an Olympic sport and Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris beat their opponents and that makes them Olympic gold medalist, three cheers for them. It reminds me why I stopped reading anything Simmons writes.

Back in the early ’90s he had an article in the Sun stating Cliff Ronning was not a bonafide NHL player and should not be in the league.

Well Ronning finished his NHL career with over 1,100 games and more than 300 goals. Pretty good career if you ask me.

I should have learned my lesson in the ’90s and not wasted my time reading Simmons’ work.

I don’t read him much but I don’t think you would confuse him with Alan Abel or Stephen Brunt or Mike Farber.

Any sportswriters that appeal to you today?
