How Can Watson Say No To Sens After Lansdowne?

Sheridan is all over this in one of his comments, but I will say it out loud.

How can Mayor Jim Watson say no to taxpayer money for an arena at LeBreton Flats when the city financed the football stadium at Lansdowne?

The City of Ottawa has already turned down Sens owner Eugene Melnick twice on major projects: once on bringing Major League Soccer to Ottawa; and the second time, reneging on a pledge to hold an open bidding process for an Ottawa casino.

If the city says no to Melnyk a third time, the Sens owner will be extremely angry.

What the owner might do with the team at that point is a matter of conjecture but he already feels poorly treated by the city.

Could it be three strikes and you’re out?
