Kanellakos Finishes Second In City Hall Whopper Derby

The second funniest line of last week came from a surprising source … city manager Steve Kanellakos.

Kanellakos churned out an arcane memo trying to explain the subtleties of fine-less RTG upon being late. And after you read the memo a time or two you say: “Yeah, we already know that.” But that’s not the funny.

Who can forget OC Transpo GM John Manconi uttering the classic LRT whopper, “I don’t call it late, I call it an adjustment of the date, for all the right reasons.”

With the minions around city hall yanking out their hair and screaming about the Manconi missive, there were rumours that Ottawa was about to become officially trilingual … English, French and Manconi-ese.

So after Kanellakos’ wordy missive, a tad tricky to understand, the city manager writes: “Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact John Manconi.”

Sure, that will work out. The second time last week your agent laughed out loud from something in the public-policy realm.

  1. In fairness to Mr. Kanellakos, I suspect that he would prefer not to talk to Mr. Manconi regarding the LRT, so directing councillors to Mr. Manconi is probably a headache prevention technique.
