Oh the librarians are going to go crazy Thursday … an extra dollop of honey in their tea … go crazy, fill your boots.
For the new site and all the other expensive things that go along with concrete monuments to books will be unveiled. Yes, it will be a place of higher learning. No kids there though … they’ll all be on their phones, tablets and laptops.
Why would they like to hear news about a 20th-century library for the 21st century.
Maybe they’ll Google it someday.
In the meantime, here’s the release from the City of Ottawa:
Councillor Tim Tierney, Chair of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) Board, and Danielle McDonald, OPL Chief Executive Officer, along with OPL and City staff, will conduct a technical briefing for OPL Board Members, Members of City Council, their staff and the media to provide an overview of the new Ottawa Central Library. Staff will present recommendations regarding the potential partnership with Library and Archives Canada, the size of the facility, the site, the procurement method, and the estimated project costs and funding strategies.
Date: Thursday, December 15, 2016
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Champlain Room, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West
The briefing is open to the public though limited seating is available. All documents will be available on the Ottawa Central Library website at 4:00 p.m. that day.
