Ontario Lt.-Gov. James Watson?

Here is an interesting strategy for whether or not Mayor Jim Watson will run again in 2018.

Watson is promising an answer to this dilemma over the next few weeks.

A political insider at Ottawa City Hall says Watson has no choice but to announce he will run in 2018.

If the mayor says he won’t seek re-election, he’ll be a lame duck for two years. His hold on council would dissipate.

So Watson must say he is running. However that doesn’t mean he is.

Instead, the mayor can see Ottawa through the 2017 celebrations and then accept a federal appointment.

Speculation has it that Watson is lobbying for the post of lieutenant-governor of Ontario.

It is a federal appointment.
