At a time when the government is facing decreased revenue from the collapse of oil prices, our employment minister (whose only real employment has been in the political sphere and as a MP) wants to spend $3 million federal dollars on this $5.5-million monument to waste. One wonders how much the Tories saved by taking the word “totalitarian” off the monument.
So why does Poilievre support this rather non-Canadian monument in the heart of the Parliamentary district … particularly when his government has been going ga-ga over commemorating the War of 1812 which took place, in part, in Canada?
Why because The Boss supports it. And when you are a young man full of ambition working for a prime minister who values cooperation from his cabinet minions, why that Victims of Communism starts to look pretty good.
Oh maybe the monument appeals to Poilievre’s book-learned ideology, but one thing of which you can be sure: Poilievre is looking after Poilievre.
The monument might be too big, too expensive and inappropriate for the area but our Pierre knows how to look out for No.1.
