Rafik Goubran Appointed Carleton VP

Carleton University has announced the appointment of Rafik A. Goubran, P.Eng., Fellow IEEE, Fellow CAE, as vice-president (Research and International).

Goubran who earned a PhD at Carleton, has served as acting vice-president, dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design, and chair of the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering and professor.

His research is in biomedical engineering, sensors, data analytics and digital signal processing. He focuses on patient monitoring and the design of smart homes for the independent living of seniors, heart and lung sound analysis, infrastructure protection, speech and audio processing, noise cancellation, and microphone arrays.

Goubran’s leadership qualities have been recognized by his peers who elected him chair of the Council of Ontario Deans of Engineering, and his faculty, who selected him as dean for two terms.
