Remember The Truck Tunnel?


Now here is something to raise during all-candidates meetings for mayor – if indeed we get to have legitimate contenders for Jim Watson’s throne. Hey, remember the truck tunnel? That was the mayor’s plan after he and other local Liberals killed the very necessary east-end bridge. The province and the city have spent hundreds of thousands to study this misguided project into oblivion hoping that both the bridge and the truck tunnel disappear from the public-policy firmament. The plan appears to have succeeded until at least now. The tunnel is fiscally impractical, dangerous in having explosive materials travel through it and just a political dodge. The people in Manor Park and Rockcliffe didn’t want the bridge in their neighbourhoods and their political friends killed it. So dangerous materials still rumble through Lowertown and we all await the day the big explosion occurs there. Perhaps lives in Manor Park and Rockcliffe are much more important than those in Lowertown … Radio Canada reporter Antoine Trépanier will not be charged in a trumped up harassment allegation when the reporter was just doing things good reporters do. Gatineau police need to be a lot smarter on these kinds of situations. The reporter should never have been put through this. Gatineau police were way over the heads in dealing with this one …
