Shame On The Ottawa Citizen: THE VOTER

Former mayor Jim Watson has no real understanding of just how low he has sunk in the eyes of most Ottawans.

You can tell it from the recent Ottawa Citizen feature on him. He is surrounded, as he always has been, by sycophants who don’t tell him the true situation. Shame on the Citizen for publishing this out-of-proportion fluff-piece and shame on Watson for having participated in it.

Has he actually read the Hourigan LRT report? Or only the parts where he and his misdeeds aren’t mentioned? If he does know, does he care?

Is he aware that he and his fellow Lansdowne miscreants at best misled Ottawa taxpayers with the infamous Lansdowne 1? His ‘leadership’, to use the word loosely, forms the basis upon which Ottawa has been shafted with the current edition of Lansdowne 2 which will be a burden on the city for decades to come. The ball and chain it places on Ottawa City Council’s ability to freely make financial decisions will impact the direction of this community long after most of us are pushing up daisies. When money in the municipal budget has been pre-allocated by a previous council, it’s not available to meet current needs which means they go unmet or taxes must be raised to provide for them.

He shows hints of Nixonian beliefs. The late U.S. president Richard Nixon famously said: “When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.” We know where that line of thinking led him and where it’s leading another more recent U.S. ex-president.

Watson is someone we do not need meddling in our community. Perhaps he could take his considerable income from the pensions he’s receiving courtesy of his various stints in different taxpayer-funded occupations and go somewhere else on a permanent basis.

I wonder also if he had to have Louis’ Pizza as his backdrop because the west-end restaurants he used to frequent aren’t as welcoming as they once were.
