The Atlantic’s Citylab looks into the question. If that’s now enough, Citylab has a spectacular video of a conventional train, not a snowplow train, blasting through snow and makes consider just how safe petroleum on rail really is:

While certainly mesmerizing, there’s an important issue to note that has gone unremarked upon since the video went viral.

Clear The Snow

snow

It’s time we clear the snow before someone gets badly hurt.

On Friday, I watched seniors going to a medical centre up to their ankles in slush and water because the snow was piled so high that melting snow could not escape.

The city is considering not removing snow, just salting and plowing, because the spring melt is approaching and city officials want to save money. That’s as careless as not burying overhead wires when you rip up streets for sewer repairs.

This is inadequate.
