Winterlude’s Last Weekend Schedule

The second weekend of the 37th Winterlude promises to be an exciting one. This winter celebration continues in Canada’s Capital Region until February 16, 2015.

Crystal Garden in Confederation Park

Over the weekend, witness a fusion of art and ice in action at Crystal Garden! On Saturday, February 7, professional ice carvers face off in the Ice-Carving Championship. Members of the public will have an opportunity to create their own ice carvings with the help of professionals during the Public Ice-Carving Challenge on Sunday, February 8.

Winterlude Schedule Unveiled

This is a release from Canadian Heritage. It features the program for 2015 Winterlude:

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today unveiled the official program for Winterlude 2015.
Winterlude will run from January 30 to February 16, 2015, with festivities taking place at three official sites: Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau and the Rideau Canal Skateway and Confederation Park in Ottawa. A wide range of activities will also be presented by partners at other venues around Canada’s Capital Region.

Snow Sculptures Back At Lansdowne

Snow sculptures are returning to Winterlude in 2015.

Ottawa residents are invited to compete for cash prizes in the City Snowscapes Community Snow Sculpture Competition at Lansdowne Park, part of the City’s Winter Design Festival taking place during Winterlude, January 30 to February 16. The festival marks the first celebration of Winterlude at the new Lansdowne Park.

Rideau Canal Skateway Is Wide Open For Winterlude

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce that the Rideau Canal Skateway will open in its entirety today, Friday February 1, at 2 pm. Skaters will have access to the full 7.8 kilometre length of the world’s largest outdoor skating rink.

Short Stretch Of Rideau Skateway To Open

This is a release from the National Capital Commission:

As of 2 pm. tomorrow afternoon, Friday, February 1, the 2.2 kilometres stretch of the Skateway, between the Bank Street Bridge and the Pretoria Bridge will re-open.

The NCC Ice Safety Committee deemed that the 2.2 kilometres of ice between the Bank Street Bridge and the Pretoria Bridge is safe for skating.
