Warm Weather To Close Canal Skateway Monday Night

This is a release from the National Capital Commission:

The National Capital Commission (NCC) announces that as of tonight, 10 pm, February 19, the Rideau Canal Skateway will be temporarily closed on its full length of 7.8 kilometres, from Rideau (National Arts Centre) to Dows Lake.

The mild weather and the precipitations expected in the coming days will erode the quality of the ice surface and create hazardous conditions for skaters and the public. This closure, while we wait for colder weather, will help preserve the ice with the goal to reopen the Skateway as quickly as possible, as weather permits.

The NCC urges the public to refrain from venturing onto the Rideau Canal Skateway once it is closed. Please respect the barricades and the signs installed at access points.
