Yet Another Promise To Finish Highway 50

rick.chiarelli.ad

Like death, taxes and yes we really will redevelop LeBreton Flats, a perpetual promise that has never been fulfilled is widening Highway 50 from Gatineau to Montreal.

Name an election that hasn’t heard the promise from federal, provincial and local leaders that Highway 50 should be completed. Problem is, it just never gets completed.

Highway 50 travels through beautiful country, cuts off some driving time between parts of Montreal and Gatineau,  and would be a great infrastructure project.

But it never happens. Excuses galore. It costs too much, it duplicates the route of Ontario’s Highway 417, or why should we build a freeway to all those federalists in the National Capital Region?

Lost sometimes in the discussion is that Highway 50, in its present form, is very dangerous for drivers.

So when Papineau MNA Alexandre Iracà says a new stretch of Highway 50 to Montreal will be widened, take it with a bag of Sifto salt. He adds there is no timeline for this project. No kidding.

He also would like to see the complete route widened.

Don’t hold your breath.

Highway 50 like you’ve never seen it before.
