LRT Claims Strategy Wrong, Wrong, Wrong: THE VOTER

The press release on LRT settlements says “claims” and “Stage Two LRT projects”, both plural. These are not any of the claims related to the (non-functional) Stage 1 of LRT.

How many claims are there, what’s the sum of money involved, are these claims by or against the city, how are these claims affecting the progress of Stage 2, who is/are the other party/parties?

What is the risk the city is exposed to? Have they received outside legal advice on how to handle these claims?

Can we get a total for the settlements paid by the city and to the city along with the cost of pursuing litigation?

Is city staff authorized to negotiate settlements up to a fixed amount without going to council? If so, what is that amount? That would give us a floor for the claim amounts these negotiations cover.

This secrecy and clandestine activity might be appropriate in other situations but not in dealings that include spending of public dollars. What part of “It’s not your money” do they not understand?

Do any of these claims involve alleged wrongdoing by any city employee?

This is wrong on so many levels, it’s hard to know where to begin.
