The Return Of The Skyscrappers

Skyscrapper imitator Al "Scarface" Capone

Skyscrapper imitator Al “Scarface” Capone

Well lookie here. Golly Wally. Catch who is back on The Bulldog.

Why the Skyscrappers who are to urban planning what Al Capone was to his enemies.

The Skyscrappers haunt That’s a pretentious lot of people who think they know everything there is to know about how Ottawa should be built. And anyone who disagrees with them is a NIMBY and an idiot.

We should all defer to their expertise in idiocy.

The Skyscrappers Return

Well lookie who’s back.

The icy members of (or the Skyscrappers as we call them) who actually created a forum on their holy platform where they trashed yours truly, printed lies about your agent and libeled the aforementioned scribbler. No wonder the weather turned cold. The Scrappers have emerged from their burrows.

Such an honour because being a target of the Scrappers means The Bulldog is on the side of goodness and light.

I Hate The Bulldog: Reader

bulldogThis is a submission from new Bulldog commenter Andrew.

We’ve noticed an increase in the number of page views from recently so maybe this is where this comment is from. The Skyscrappers are noted for writing drivel like this so perhaps that explains the quality of comment.

The spelling and grammar has been markedly cleaned up on this comment:

Bulldog Ottawa’s 2012 Most Popular Posts

Discussion, pro and con, of the Skyscrappers, a rogue group of urban pundits, took up three of the top 10 most-popular posts on Bulldog Ottawa.

This is the time of year when we reflect on what has happened in the past and what might be in store for the future.

Bulldog Ottawa is still a work in progress, probably always will be, but the indications are that it will prosper in a media landscape that is devouring many much larger publications. That might be the problem with the media today. Its costs are too big for the revenue available.

Without Skyscrappers, Gets Smart

It’s too bad that much of the has declined into a bunch of trolls because it had the possibility of becoming a bright, intelligent forum for urban thought.

Now it is most famous for its abusive rump of participants, the Skyscappers, who have damaged the forum beyond repair. Again I would say that the people serious about urban conversation should form their own site to start over.

Still every now and then a mushroom grows on the compost heap. This email from long-time reader JC Dube:

The Skyscrappers: A Non-Apology Apology (1)

There is an undercurrent of bullying on some threads of, a group that says it explores urban thought.

Here one of the Scrappers, those who diverge from what could be a very good forum, has some regrets. S-Man, as he calls himself, wrote a particularly nasty post about Lansdowne protester John Martin.

Bulldog Ottawa put up a post so he could identify himself like many of his critics do. We still wait:

Regrets, He Has A Few (2)

This is another post on from a person calling himself S-Man who wrote a particularly nasty post about Lansdowne protester John Martin.

Come On Brave Scrapper, Identify Yourself

If S-Man (I take it that isn’t his real name) who wrote the questionable comment concerning hunting someone down on is the brave soul he makes himself out to be, maybe he should come clean.

Easy to be brave behind a fake name.

Reader Stands Up To Bullying

Loyal Bulldog Ottawa reader and contributor J.C. Dube takes on the Skyscrappers of and their odd forum of urban discussion in this email.

Hello Ken,

re: “Should this Skyscrapper be charged?”

JFFournier has made some effete apology on why John Martin is not welcomed on the Skyscraper forum page. That’s fine! I have followed John Martin’s entries on that blog forum for the past four years and I do know that he has been very capably able to raise the ire of many participants in that forum. That’s fine also! John Martin is a good man.

Disband The Skyscrapper Forum

Lansdowne opponent John Martin is receiving poor treatment from the Skyscrappers.

No one is saying that Lansdowne opponent John Martin is a boy scout.

This blog in its previous incarnation at the Ottawa Citizen had its problems with Martin using repetitious comments and the like. He caused me the occasional furrowed brow as he has a number of Ottawans.

Skyscrappers Find A New Target … John Martin

My close personal friends over at have found a new target. This time it is John Martin.

Scrappers Should Show Better Judgment

Good Dog

We’ve seen a lot of tragic results from Internet abuse and bullying recently.

All I can say is that the people over at should be very glad The Bulldog is one tough puppy, because some participants in that forum that often looks like the Bowery Boys of urbanism (actually the Bowery Boys could get past the studio censors) aren’t showing a lot of consideration.

Guess The Age Of The Skyscrappers

Skyscrappers Have Vision Of Ottawa

The Skyscrappers, otherwise known as the group of talkers who’ve taken on as a hobby of criticizing your agent to the tune of 29 pages over a year (what a long name), have spouted forth with their vision of Ottawa – a picture I used to illustrate a post on their new interest-group organization. This from a Skyscrapper:

Skyscrappers Lash Out At 335 Roosevelt Defence

Here is the response of the people (now formed into the interest group Ottawa Urbanism) to a post on Bulldog Ottawa concerning raising money for the defence of Roosevelt Avenue at the Ontario Municipal Board:

The Skyscrappers Get Organized

The new Ottawa.

The Skyscrappers, a group of leather-lunged activists who found time to write 29 pages of Internet nastiness about lil’ ole me on, have organized.

Thank goodness they’re getting out a bit. Being cooped up inside with a computer all day can’t be fun. I was worried for them.

I’ve suggested in the past that the Skyscrappers needed a hobby and now they’ve taken my advice. Golly wolly. Cows will fly.
