For more than three decades, Ken Gray worked in many posts from reporter to senior editor at the Montreal Gazette, the Winnipeg Free Press, the London Free Press, the Regina Leader-Post and the Ottawa Citizen.
He has covered news, business, entertainment, arts and lifestyle over his journalism career. Gray reported from Ottawa City Hall for seven years for the Citizen and sat on the newspaper’s editorial board for another seven years as the local specialist as well as with other fields of interest.
Gray was also the Ottawa Citizen’s former city editorial page editor, municipal affairs reporter and columnist.
At the Winnipeg Free Press in the 1980s, Gray was the youngest senior manager at a major daily newspaper in Canada.
During the early ’90s, he edited the Southam News-Toronto Star First Edition, one of the first new media ventures in Canada. He received a commendation from the Canadian Forces for distributing news by way of The First Edition to troops fighting in the Persian Gulf War.
The Bulldog when it appeared in the Citizen was eastern Ontario’s most popular local affairs blog. Gray retired from the Citizen in 2011.
From 2013 to 2016, he did a weekly radio spot for Ottawa news/talk radio station CFRA and 1310 News.
As well, Gray founded and taught a course in media law and municipal government at Algonquin College. He earned a master’s journalism degree and a honours bachelor’s history degree at the University of Western Ontario in the 1970s.
