Comments once dismissed as “trolling”, “musing” or “Trump just being Trump” have taken on more serious overtones as the U.S. president-elect persists in talking about having Canada join the United States.
After a month of what was initially waved off as “silly talk”, the narrative is creating significant anxiety among Canadians, and bemusement among the few Americans actually aware of the situation.
A cross-border study conducted by the non-profit Angus Reid Institute finds that while one-in-three Canadians (32%) believe Donald Trump is serious in his professed goal of making Canada the 51st state, most Americans – two-thirds – have paid little attention to the incoming president’s comments.

Trump represents – very well – one of the worst characteristics a politician can have – destabilization. Joking or serious, he creates instability, division and dissent. That makes him a national – and global – threat.
DumbOld Trumpf is an expansionist and in this discussion his goal is to make the the US the largest country on the planet. Currently Russia is number 1 by a significant margin, almost double the size of Canada. China is 3rd, followed by the US. If Canada and the US were to merge, Canada/US would be the largest country in the world by land mass. Adding Greenland to the grouping would make Canada/US/Greenland the largest by a sizeable margin. DumbOld Trumpf is nothing more than a dangerous simpleton with a grade 3 bully mentality.
Taking over Greenland and Canada also would make the US northern border cover the area of the north not covered by Russia.
I don’t see it as in our interest to be occupying the place closest to Russia when they will see us as the gateway to the US. The US will inevitably deploy thousands of American troops to protect what will then be their northern border. Unless, of course, Trump plans on ‘erasing’ that invisible line too.
