Carney’s A Funny Guy On U.S. Media

The road to the prime minister’s office appears to run through U.S. talk and comedy shows.

First, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the Late Show, then pretty-much Liberal leader candidate Mark Carney on the Daily Show.

We give you candidate Carney handling himself about as well as one can with the acute wit of Joh Stewart and coming as close as you can to announcing his candidacy for Grit leader without announcing it.

He’s pretty funny for a banker.

Watched this morning. Smart – funny – quick and handling one of the most challenging interviewers. An economist on a comedy show. Unprecedented.

Carney did well. I now see him in a more positive way. Thanks for posting the interview.

It seems to me we’ve already had an economist run Canada. His name was Stephen Harper. He did a pretty decent job but eventually he fell out of favour with Canadians only to be replaced by Justin Trudeau who not only hadn’t worked in the private sector, but never had a “real” job before becoming prime minister. One issue Mark Carney avoided during his discussion with Jon Stewart was the Liberals’ mishandling of immigration over the past 4 years.

So – teaching is not a real job. Thanks for the Reform Party song sheet reminder.

Harper was trained as an economist but wasn’t his primary pre-politics work in the mailroom? He went on to some work with right-wing think tanks but never really had a real job there either. Hardly on the same scale as Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England and then working for the UN as an actual economist.
