Doug Ford Is Captain Canada

I don’t often have much good to say about Ontario Premier Doug Ford but he has really excelled at stepping up and taking on the mantle of Captain Canada this month when needed.

There’s none of his usual bombast, just a calm and factual stating of the situation and taking the lead with his fellow premiers, with the exception of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, to unite for the benefit of the whole of Canada in the face of president-elect Donald Trump’s ridiculous ramblings.

Ford and the other premiers are doing a great job of keeping their powder dry until it’s clear what is really going to happen. They all seem to understand that Trump’s babblings over the last couple of months might or might not hold water but are definitely intended to put the proverbial cat among the pigeons.

It’s vital that they not follow the lead of Smith in running to kneel before Trump to beg that their own bailiwick be saved from whatever’s coming. The premiers should maintain a united pan-Canadian front so Trump has no opportunity to pick them off one-by-one.
