When the bus terminal was terminated, there was talk than intercity buses in the future would simply go to the rail station, Tremblay Station, where the LRT and Via trains would connect. It seemed perfect.
So now it stops at the Ikea parking lot and the Canadian Tire gas station in Kanata.
Setting up a bus terminal at the Tremblay Road Via/LRT station makes operational sense. People arriving in Ottawa by train from Montreal or Toronto can transfer easily to a bus that takes them to Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke and points westward, or Rockland, Hawkesbury, or Carleton Place, Perth. Same thing in reverse.
Except that if a bus also heads direct to Montreal or Toronto from Tremblay Road it means that Via Rail may face competition. And Crown Corporation’s can’t tolerate competition because that may mean their service levels may have to rise above abysmal.
