We’re about to find out.
Is it worth a three-per-cent decline in the GDP?
Is it worth importing the violence and gun culture from the U.S.? (And why isn’t Canada saying that it is imposing tariffs on the U.S., in part, because that country won’t stop the illegal importation of guns into Canada? And unlike U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims, that isn’t fake news.)
Is it worth losing our universal health care or our social safety net? Is it worth joining a country that is myopic and can’t see beyond its borders?
Trump would like to turn Canada in the 51st state. About 10 per cent of Canadians, polls show, want to join the U.S.
Canadians will be paying for their sovereignty like they never have before with the Trump tariff war.
So how much do you love Canada? Is it worth all this money and economic dislocation to avoid saying the words “Mr. President” to Donald Trump? How badly do you want to buy a MAGA hat? How much do you want a revolver in your bedroom dresser drawer?
We’re about to discover just how much Canadians want to be Canadians.

I’m sure MAGA baseball hats, used and abused, will be available at local pawn shops in short order when the reality of voting for DumbOld Trumpf hits mom and pop America and their kids. There will no longer be a need to purchase them new at the online Trumpf retail store or through Amazon. Alternatively you’ll probably be able to find them en masse at local landfills.
Canada is bereft of quality, credible and honest polling. Polling is a tool of the wicked here – intended to sway public opinion rather than inform. So I automatically dismiss that alleged 10% intention to love the USA and to become Yank. It’s nonsense.
