Troster Creates Drain Hero Award

We’re not making this up:

This excerpt below from Somerset Councillor Ariel Troster’s newsletter is courtesy of the city-wide community group Your Applewood Acres (And Beyond) Neighbours.

This column was prompted by two constituents – Eleanor and Marna, who wrote in about two separate ideas that got me thinking about infrastructure season. Eleanor told us about one of her neighbours being extremely dedicated to clearing the drains on their street, and to ask if the city gave out awards for residents who were Drain Heroes. The city does not – but now my office does.

We created the Centretown Drain Hero award, and asked residents to submit suggestions of friends, neighbours, and family members who deserved some recognition. I have been blown away by the response – including from Marna, who wrote to thank us for the award, along with an extremely detailed response about what the city can do to alleviate flooding (thank you Marna).

Once these drains are cleared up this idea should be the first things to flushed into them.

I don’t get your sarcasm? The city has over 600,000 storm stewers! I started keeping about 6 drains cleared 18 years ago because I couldn’t stand seeing parents with an older kid in wheel chair not being able to get the mail box. Saw an elderly man stuck in the middle of a pool covering the whole intersection. Decided someone had to do it. Kudos to others who care about others in the neighborhoods too!
