POILIEVRE: Are You Trump Or Not? THE VOTER

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre gives us an excellent demonstration of the Orwellian 1984 language transported to the present day.

He doesn’t, of course, explain anything because it’s better, for his purposes, to have people fill in the blanks themselves thereby fitting it into whatever their personal bugbear might be.

It’s almost the classic definition of irony when he declares, in Parliament no less, that woke has “one purpose … control”. In fact, his attempt to oppress what he sees as “woke” is for the very purpose, i.e. control, that he claims progressives are doing.

Similarly, he tries to claim he isn’t following a Trumpian agenda while simultaneously pushing the same ideas and policies as are being promulgated by Trump and his cronies south of the border. This includes immigration, academic freedom and many others. Or are we supposed to believe that he coincidentally and concurrently arrived at the same place as Trump in distilling his personal wisdom?

Democratic Senator Expresses His Love For Canada

If, in fact, Poilievre does not agree with and Trump’s actions, then he must go on the record and categorically deny that he supports those actions and specifically confirm that he will not be instituting any of them in Canada should he become prime minister. He also must affirm that he will not propose or support anything related to those actions in any way while he is a Canadian elected official in whatever capacity he serves.

If, as he and his acolytes claim, he is not in favour of the actions Trump and his cronies are taking, then it should be no problem for him to clearly state that he will not impose the same controls in Canada. If he is not a follower of Trump, it will be easy for him to clearly state that.

If he can’t commit to the Canadian people that he repudiates the actions of Trump and his administration, it’s a pretty strong indicator of his intentions.

Maybe the similarity between Trump and Poilievre is because Canada needs same/similar reforms as the US!

  2. Rachel says:

POILIEVRE -Yes Rocco you are on point.

Bulldog your article helped me decide to vote for Pierre’s team even if I have some reservations

  3. Watching Carefully says:

There we go. The last two comments prove the point of the article. A vote for Poilievre is a vote for becoming Trump land. That means a vote for fascism. in 2023, Harper called for a closer relationship with Orban and Hungry which means a relationship with Putin in a war against democracy. A vote for the autocrats who want nothing less than world domination.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump has taken control of the upcoming federal election whether we’re prepared to admit it or not. Instead of focusing on the issues that are most important to Canadians, the focus has turned to Trump comparisons, who Trump feels more comfortable working with, etc. Time is running out for Canadians to focus on Canada’s needs, how we’re going to achieve them, and ignore the bone-head making a mess of the world order who just happens to live next door.

Boogie Man politics is so tiresome. Let’s focus on Party Platforms and what resonates with us as voters. I’ve looked at all of them. I’ve looked at our candidates. I’m voting Conservative.

  6. The Voter says:

    Nancy,

What party platform from the Conservatives led you to this conclusion? I have yet to see a platform released by either of the two leading parties.

    @TheVoter

If you’re going to write this kind of stuff saying that Pierre must state he will not impose the same controls as Trump (FYI he has… repeatedly) and then reply to comments admitting you have no clue what the two main parties have released as far as platforms, then my friend you’d better pay a little more attention before spouting nonsense.

    Sincerely,

    An actually informed voter

  8. Ken Gray says:

    Sass, indeed. Lotsa sass.

    cheers
