DND: We Stand On Guard For Geese

“… remain calm and do not panic.”

Canadian military on approaching Canada geese during breeding season

Anybody who walks along the Kichi Zibi Mikan (Ottawa River parkway) knows about hissing geese. That’s about all these birds do during breeding season.

What you do is walk by and not bother them. Then the geese hiss at the next passerby. Given the busy pathways along the parkway, that’s a lot of hissing.

Down the road a bit from the parkway is the Carling Avenue headquarters of the Department of National Defence where they have geese and big tough military people (brave people willing to take on the Chinese or Russians on Ellesmere Island or even the Trump-obsessed Americans driving up Highway 416 to Parliament Hill). There employees are being warned to be wary of the feathered toughs.

Don’t panic.

We don’t doubt the bravery of our fighting men and women (far from it), but we do have doubts about one obsessive-compulsive military-memo writer.

Keep calm and carry on. Geese could hurt you, but mostly, they don’t.

Maybe we could station those geese in our under-defended far north and teach those Russians a lesson.

Canada strong. Elbows up. Wings up.

All Canada Geese do during breeding season is hiss? I bet other shenanigans are taking place.

DND needs to beware of foreign based Canada geese infiltrating our military facilities. I have seen these migratory ‘beasts’ taking possession of ponds and parks in Europe.

    Ron:

    Thank you for this.

And here I thought the only threat that geese maintained was the ability to ruin my shoes.

    cheers

Remember these geese migrate and spend the winter south of here, going to or through the US in the process. Who knows what type of nefarious deeds the Americans may have been up to with the geese?

Is it coincidence that they have chosen to congregate at a Canadian military installation? Are they being controlled by foreign masters? How to they choose who to deposit their droppings on? We can’t be too cautious and you never know who to trust.
