Year over year results show about 13,000 fewer speeding tickets were issued by the automated cameras. All well and good, but stay tuned to see how council intends to make up the lost revenue from this cash cow. It has to be made up doesn’t it? After all the police budget is counting on it.
Is it surprising that fewer speeders are caught by photo radar cameras when the city post signs stating “Municipal Speed Camera In Use”? I wonder how long it will take for this epiphany to hit one of the 17,000+ employees at city.
sisco, it is my understanding that the city is required by provincial regulation to put up signs regarding the presence of photo radar cameras and red light cameras. Similar requirements exist for surveillance cameras in public spaces (but not on private property).
Here’s something I’ve noticed, but I’m not sure if this is occurring everywhere. The city has the those speed display signs letting you know how fast you’re going, however if a photo radar camera is installed near one of those, the speed display sign is removed.
