RETRO: Let’s See The Night Mayor Top This

The Bulldog, now that the Liberal government has committed to “build, build, build,” has been pushing for a Canadian Music Hall of Fame in Ottawa. We certainly have more than enough talent to fill it several times over.

Maybe it’s time for Ottawa to get together to build something like this for the economy today, our heritage and the tourist industry of tomorrow. Our Ottawa night mayor could make this his signature endeavour.

Perhaps the exhibition below could be a small opening to something bigger.

Retro has its media preview on Thursday which is not a public event, but fear not, real exhibition runs from June 6 to Jan. 18.

Here is the media preview from the Museum of History:

Well, Ken. This will provide you a second musical venue to visit along with the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland which is no longer an option for me since I don’t plan on renewing my passport. I wonder if the new museum will be restricted to Canadian singer-songwriters/bands only (some of which had non-Canadian members, eg The Band) or if there will be an international section as well. This truly is something to look forward to and should be a lot of fun.

The only person supporting this so far is me.

Well, I’m all in too. So we have doubled support for this project. The International segment I mentioned could include bands like Orchestra Baobob from Senegal, Tinariwin from the South Sahara Desert, YoussouN’Dour, Ali Farka Toure, and that’s only a small smattering of African Music. There’s Harry Belafonte & calypso, and on and on and on. To make it a world-wide attraction, let’s not restrict this to R & R. And lets make it the biggest beautiful building, bigger even than its cousin in Cleveland. And what better location than good old Lebreton Flats. It’s nice to dream. Maybe I should run for city council.
