Forget A Lansdowne Levy On Your Tax Bill: BENN

Bulldog columnist Ron Benn responds to talk of a Lansdowne levy on Ottawan’s property-tax bills:

A special Lansdowne levy on our tax bills would be a constant reminder of council’s inability to just say no.

It will be a constant reminder to taxpayers to vote against the councillors who approved the half-billion dollar nice-to-have amenity. That is why it won’t appear as a separate line item on our tax bills.

It will have negative ramifications for those who betrayed the trust put in them by the voters. That’s the trust to make reasoned decisions about the use of current and future tax dollars.

The amount I pay monthly on my taxes went up 12% from June to July. They may have said they only had a 4% increase, but when you factor in all the levies, it adds up pretty quickly!
