Transit: Wilson Lo’s Time Has Come: BENN

Chairing high profile and important committees is best not left to a political rookie.

And the city transit commission is as high profile and important as they come. Take a look at the Lipstick On A Pig post.

Having said that, Barrhaven East Councillor Wilson Lo is no longer a political rookie. He has demonstrated that he does his homework as seen in the sprung structure program. He has demonstrated that he is willing to ask probing questions of staff. To not be satisfied with bulk data dumps that are designed to mask real problem areas. He is articulate and capable of presenting his ideas in a clear and concise manner.

Why wait until next term? Why not ask the current commission chairman Glen Gower to step aside and let someone who has demonstrated more in less than three years on council than what Gower has demonstrated in the better part of a decade?

What is clear to everyone, save those who populate the city council chamber and their sycophants that OC Transpo is dysfunctional. That it is on a downward, clockwise spiral.

The decision to appoint and remove committee chairs is council’s, not the mayor’s. The time is now for a councillor to present that motion. The time is now for councillors who are more noteworthy for their perpetual whining than for actual action to demonstrate that they have had enough of pitiful performance.

Ron Benn, a finance executive, has been a member of the Centrepointe Community Association for the better part of three decades.

“… downward, clockwise spiral.” Would counterclockwise be better or worse?

  2. Ron Benn says:

Jake, counterclockwise would be what one would expect to see north of the equator. Clockwise is the counter intuitive directionality that OC Transpo has adopted. One that takes a real effort to accomplish.

Ron. Yes, the time is ripe! Yesterday I suggested Mr. Lo be appointed council chair for OC Transpo once the 2026 municipal election is behind us. But OC Transpo needs help right now! So I think your your suggestion is excellent. There may be some bruised egos at the council table, but it’s up to those who can, to help now and do what’s best for the city and its residents. What I have learned in watching Wilson Lo over the past couple of years is he is a logical thinker and does not let his emotions get in the way of choosing the right path when he comes to a fork in the road. In addition he says what he has to say without getting caught up in “politics speak”.
