Council Lacks Courage To Ditch Nightlife Commish: BENN
City staff recently noted that it is $1.3 million behind budget on the items that they can influence leaving the $36 million budget fiction for council to talk about.
Putting the nightlife commissioner and his retinue to the curb would put about a 20-per-cent dent in that problem.
However, that is unlikely to occur. It would mean that the same council that thought that hiring someone find fresh ideas, such as a new website, was a bright idea. It would mean acknowledging the error of their ways. That is just not going to happen, because that would take courage.
And courage is in short supply around the council chamber.
