Basic arithmetic gets trumped by pre-election posturing. Every time.

Earlier this week, Ottawa’s city council instructed staff to analyze ways to extend public transit to rural areas of Ottawa. Historical data tells us that the expected bump in ridership will not cover the increased costs. Adding costs in excess of revenues to a public transit budget shortfall that is already measured in the tens of millions of dollars will increase that shortfall, not decrease it. That is basic arithmetic. So basic it is covered at the elementary school level.
