Nothing Stops School Dropoff Chaos: BENN

School side drop offs, such as the controversial one at St. John XXIII School on Knoxdale Road, have always been problematic.

The access and egress points, and especially the ones along busy streets such as Greenbank and Knoxdale roads, were not designed for the volume of vehicles delivering junior to school. The parking lots were not designed for the volume of vehicles rolling up as close to the door as possible. The parking lots were not designed for the parents put their vehicle in park, activate the four-way flashers, because they “need” to escort junior into the school – sometimes with a poster board or science project in hand. Just for 30 seconds, or five minutes, which ever comes last. Days with heavy rain or sub-arctic temperatures saw a 10-fold increase in volume. Short tempers and intemperate language are known to appear during times of stress.
