Are You A Jesse Marsch?
This is Cathal Kelly of the Globe and Mail on the inspiring words from Canadian men’s soccer coach Jesse Marsch, an American citizen, on our country. Marsch’s comments are in the video at the bottom of the page.
“Are we a country full of ‘low key’ Canadians or are we a country full of those who believe good people can do great things? Who’s willing to do what to maintain our national integrity? How far will you empower a government to go?
This isn’t the time for everyone to stare at their shoes and hope someone else speaks up. You can already see that happening among the oft-interviewed.
It’s time to start talking to each other. Most importantly, to not let outside actors do the talking for us. It already feels like the “51st state discourse” (Marsch’s words) emanates largely from the Oval Office.
At some point, everyone will declare themselves, somehow. Are you someone who lets others do their talking for them, or are you a Jesse Marsch?”
Kelly’s column is available here but you need a Globe subscription to read it.
Here are Marsch’s words below:
Soccer coach Jesse Marsch and his famous speech.
Time for Canadians to start speaking up and telling the Americans that virtually nobody up here wants to be an American.
And if they still don’t understand, point them to their felon president and to buy themselves a mirror.

Most but not all of the Americans I’ve talked to, including a few Republicans, are saying the same thing. They are both embarrassed and ashamed with the stance Trump is taking towards Canada and other allies. Many of the things he’s done and continues to do are not only illegal but he wasn’t given a mandate to do them.
I spoke with a woman about the disgraceful display by Trump and Vance towards President Zekenskyy. She’s a Democrat who had already talked to her Republican Senator and said he could only repeat to her that the bullying behaviour we all saw did not have the support of a lot of Congress members. He also told her that it would be nearly impossible to turn Canada into a state even if Canada wanted it. Trump has no idea what the process is to create a state.
Voter. Your comment “Many of the things he’s (Trump) done and continues to do are not only illegal but he wasn’t given a mandate to do them” contains a small flaw. Dictators don’t care about what is legal and what is not because the only mandate they follow is their own.
