Bus Crash Inquest Very Necessary: MULVIHILL
Accountability in the matter of the tragic Westboro bus crash is a must.
Now we’re getting that.
April 2, 2025 will see Ontario begin a special coroner’s inquest into the crash in 2019.
Three Ottawa residents were killed and 23 more passengers injured in the crash where a double-decker bus hit a bus shelter steel overhang that cut through the second level of the bus.
Charges were laid in the incident. The verdicts were not guilty. The upcoming inquest will examine the circumstances that led to the deaths of passengers Judy Booth, Bruce Thomlinson and Anja Van Beek.
The courts have ruled. Now we need to have accountability for the three deaths and the maiming of others.
The inquest will try to establish the facts and make recommendations that will hopefully prevent this kind of accident occurring again.
Donna Mulvihill is a community activist and former hospital coordinator

Someone needs to answer for the decision to retain the non-frangible overhangs at those stations. Even the most rudimentary hazard/risk analysis would have identified these as a danger to any passengers riding on the upper deck of a double-decker bus.
100% agree with Paul. Ever since the accident I have held that if it happened once, it could happen again. Lightning can strike the same place more than once.
