Buses: Lo Sets New Critical Standard: BENN
1. Many of the changes in the New Ways to Bus involved the collector routes. The routes that deliver riders to the hubs, such as Fallowfield. What is the reaction of the riders as the arrive at Fallowfield? Incremental distance from home to nearest stop with timeliness and frequency of service being the key elements. The same questions apply for the last leg of the return route. The one that takes them from Fallowfield to their neighbourhood.
The point being that the commute starts at the front door of the residence and ends at the front door of the workplace, and then the reverse at the end of the day. How much longer is the time between the two end points, relative to before the major changes? Is the revised service level more reliable?
2. What was the capacity utilization on the major routes that depart Fallowfield (e.g. 75)? The point being that if the bus is full leaving Fallowfield then there will be challenges faced downstream, as riders attempt to board at Baseline, Iris, Lincoln Fields etc.
While capacity availability might not be overly important to Barrhaven-based riders (i.e. Councillor Lo’s constituents), it is to those whose connecting points are north of Barrhaven.
Over to you councillors Sean Devine, Laine Johnson, Theresa Kavanaugh. Time to step up and match Councillor Lo’s approach to due diligence.
Ron Benn, a finance executive, has been a member of the Centrepointe Community Association for the better part of three decades.

Being a regular user of the 75 from Tunney’s to Baseline stations, I can say that the ‘New way to bus’ is an abject failure. At least for the 75.
It used to be that the frequency of the 75 leaving from Tunney’s would mean roughly 1/2 to 2/3 full buses; enough capacity for downstream customers. Now? Standing room only all the time. In other words, standard OC Transpo operating procedure: disappointing.
Nicholas, this is the kind of feedback that councillors need to hear. From real time users, not OC Transpo staff.
Do you take a local bus out of Baseline to your neighbourhood? If so, what is the frequency and occupancy relative to pre-New Way to Bus?
OCTranspo doesn’t listen to riders.
Kudos to Wilson Lo for at least getting out to talk to people, although in the wrong areas. But, that’s better than most Councillors, and by the way, was Amilcar out there talking to riders?
I know for sure the frequency of my bus since the New Way to Ignore Riders came out. I don’t have a bus, the route was eliminated.
