Right now speed cameras make a good distraction for more important council business. The Mayor’s club of councillors are hoping that by dragging the speed camera issue out, the deflection will take the pressure off the Mayor and his fight to get Lansdowne 2.0 passed. The thinking being is what is good for Sutcliffe must, in the long term, be good for me. The fact is they are doing a diservice to two files, one of which will burden Ottawa for decades while the other should be left to the province to decide.
Hey I have an idea: let’s name the speed cameras.
It seems councilors need their “feel good projects” so they can all sit around the circle and sing kumbaya. To really set the mood they should set up a firepit in the middle of the council chamber. And guys, don’t forget you’ll need a burn permit.
