Crerar Column Creates Controversy
The Bulldog’s Howard Crerar created quite a buzz when he suggested that Ottawa city councillors should be paid on merit.
Some councillors have been looking for a double-digit raise.
This from X:
“Many years ago the @OttawaCitizen published a biennial report card for every #ottcity councilor giving each one a grade from A+ to F along with an explanation for the ranking.”

This is the most nonsensical article yet. I know of no councillor who took a pay cut to become a politician. None. This is the best job they’ve ever had. https://t.co/he7vfvtIty

Thanks to everyone for your comments, happy, sad, I’m happy to have enlivened your day. / Ken G. This was a direct quote from one of the contenders in the recent by-election in Osgoode ward on June 16th. / Finally, Evan H., I speak nothing but the truth. Yup, every 2 years, an assessment was presented although, if memory serves, I don’t think any councilor ever received an A+. In your workplace you likely have access to microfiche and a reader. Feel free to delve into the deepest regions of the university library and have a look. / By the way, next week’s article is planned and will continue along the same lines. Double-digit pay increases for Ottawa city councilors? Bah!
