Expect Transit Delays, OC Transpo Says

This is a release from the City of Ottawa:

Mayor and Members of Council,

The severe winter storm brought snow and blowing snow overnight and early this morning. Heavy snowfall and high winds over the course of the day will make conditions challenging for anyone travelling on the road network.

Across the O-Train network, our maintainers Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) and TransitNext are deploying all available resources to ensure snow is cleared from stations and track infrastructure, like switches, continue to function.

O-Train Line 1 operations started today as scheduled. For a short period this morning, service operated on one track between Bayview and Lyon stations. Trains continued to operate across the entire line, though customers may have experienced short delays. Currently, Line 1 service is operating across the full alignment.

Lines 2 and 4 do not operate on Sundays. Parallel bus service continues to be in place to support customers. TransitNext is using specialized equipment to clear snow across the line and prepare for the start of operations on Monday.

Buses are operating as intended, but like everyone on the road, delays are expected due to poor weather conditions. The Severe Storm Schedule for buses will not be implemented as it is only used on weekdays. OC Transpo is proactively removing as many articulated buses as possible from service today.

Para Transpo service is operating with few delays. Our team is reaching out to customers to share the status of their scheduled trips. Customers can also use My Para Transpo app to track the status of their trips.

Sunday afternoon will see more challenging weather. It is extremely important to be patient and understand that it will be challenging for everyone to get around the city. Customers are encouraged to give themselves additional time to get to their destination and use OC Transpo’s travel planner or the Transit App to plan their trips.

We have been providing updates on octranspo.com, social media and via text messages and will continue to share updates throughout today’s storm on all our communications channels for customers to stay informed.

Thank you,

Renée Amilcar
