Get A Job, Pierre: QUOTABLE

“Watch me.”

New MP Bruce Fanjoy when told he couldn’t defeat Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre in Carleton

What’s that old expression? It ain’t braggin’ if you’re doing it.

Well Fanjoy isn’t bragging now. The Liberal did it.

What were the odds of Fanjoy beating Pierre Poilievre in the Conservative leader’s own riding he’d held since 2004. We’re thinking 100-1.

You’ve got to like a guy who takes on the impossible and does it. Keep an eye on this fellow. He might be going places, particularly when he says “watch me.” Hard to bet against.

As for Poilievre, the Tory chief says he’s staying on as leader. Let’s see.

He took a huge lead into the campaign and squandered it. He failed to adjust to the new reality of the Trump tariffs except to shout Canada First. He was a slogan machine, not a content machine. His background as just a politician started to show … his lack of experience. He had to be shielded from the media for fear he might say something wrong. Successful politicians embrace the media. He lost his home riding. People know him there.

So just because Poilievre says he’s staying on doesn’t mean he’s staying. He has a lot of strikes against him and he’s in a party that has an illustrious history of eating its own going back to John Diefenbaker and Dalton Camp.

The Conservatives would be much better off with a moderate instead of a pale, non-orange Trump Lite. Somebody the majority of Canadians could support. Somebody with some real-life experience instead of a stuffed shirt. Somebody Canadian … with all its virtues, which are many.

Go out and get a real job, Pierre. Accumulate some background other than as a pensioned, lifetime MP.

If you want to tout the private sector (not a bad idea), go work in it. Learn to operate a cash register. Sell something other than yourself.

Then come back, if you like, and try to be prime minister again. Gain some perspective. The whole world isn’t Question Period.

He’s an over-grown version of a kid who lives in his parents’ basement rec room.

Make a real living like the rest of us.

  1. Been There says:

Without a seat, Poilievre is left to watch the house from the gallery. To get back in, winning a by-election in a safe seat riding would be required. If the party decides to go that route, wouldn’t it be a good time for Poilievre to consider getting his security clearance?

I heard that its not his choice, if he tried to get a security clearance, it would be a problem to get it.

Now that have told readers how you really feel about Pierre Poilievre, I can hardly wait to read your evisceration of Justin Trudeau
