‘I’ll Get Right On This:’ TRAFFIC CAMERAS

uOttawa professor Evan Potter is right on this post to X.

And look how city staff is addressing the red-light camera revenue problem. The city manager will get to the bottom of this. Did she not know about this misallocation of funds? If she didn’t know, she should have known.

This reminds me of a senior manager at the Ottawa Citizen. Something would go wrong in his department and he would tell the managing editor, “I’ll get to the bottom of this.” This would happen a number of times. Sooner or later, the problem isn’t the underlings but the senior manager. We’ve reached that point at city hall.

No wonder so many qualified candidates don’t want to fill one of the lucrative interim positions at Ottawa City Hall. Would you want to work there?

So … we already knew that Ms Stephanson isn’t doing the part of her job that requires her to supervise her staff. If she was, Renee Amilcar, who reports directly to her, would be long gone. Now we find out she’s not looking after the part of her job that requires her to look after the money.

What exactly is she doing with her time? Certainly not managing the city which I always thought was the job of the City Manager.

If I’m not mistaken, Wendy Stephanson is the highest-paid employee at city hall. Council should have her on the carpet in the middle of the council table explaining how she’s going to resolve this issue. If she can’t then she should be shown the door with no golden parachute to soften the landing. If her investigation determines a low-level member of staff is responsible then she should be shown the door with no golden parachute. How did Wendy S moved up the ladder into senior management at city hall. Is it because she’s competent? Ditto Renee Amilcar. If the province is going to straighten up the mess at city hall removing these two senior managers without compensation would be a good place to start
