Ironman Race To Cripple Ottawa Traffic
Ottawa’s streets will transform into an IRONMAN racecourse on Sunday, August 3.
The IRONMAN Canada-Ottawa event will start at 6 am with a 3.8-kilometre swim at Britannia Beach followed by a 180-kilometre bike ride through local neighbourhoods. It will wrap up with a 42.2-kilometre run around Parliament Hill. Participants have 17 hours to complete the event – a full day of adrenaline!

Traffic impacts
The City’s online traffic map will have live updates on traffic impacts throughout the event. Select “Special Events” to see roads currently affected. You can also follow the City of Ottawa’s traffic account on X.

Early and extended closures
Some roads and bridges will be closed for a longer period to facilitate the event:
- Alexandra Bridge will be closed from 9:30 am on Friday, August 1 until noon on Monday, August 4.
- Sussex Drive will be closed between Murray Street and St. Patrick Street from 5 am on Sunday, August 3 until 6 pm on Monday, August 4.
- Mackenzie Avenue will be closed from 6 am on Sunday, August 3 until 7 am on Monday, August 4.
Closures on Sunday, August 3
Road closures are expected to start as early as 3 am on Sunday, August 3. Roads will be reopened to traffic once participants complete that section of the course. Some roads may be closed until approximately 1 am on Monday, August 4.

Bridges impacted by the event include:
- Alexandra Bridge
- Champlain Bridge
- Chaudière Bridge
- Portage Bridge
- Pretoria Bridge

OC Transpo
Some OC Transpo bus routes will be detoured due to road closures related to the event. Check OC Transpo’s alerts page for the latest detour information and allow extra time for your travels.
Taking in the action? Great spectator spots across the city can be reached by O-Train or bus, with the IRONMAN Village in Confederation Park located just a short walk from both Rideau and Parliament stations on O-Train Line 1.
