LRT Fix Will Take Time For Sutcliffe: READER
This Bulldog reader on X wants to cut Mayor Mark Sutcliffe some slack:
OC has been dysfunctional for over 40 years. In fairness, Sutcliffe inherited a highly dysfunctional train set. It will take more than one term to fix it. Next disaster will be the electric buses. Why can’t this city stick with what works?

Suttcliffe just has to play this out (as did Watson) for another term or two then hand off the OC MESS to the next willing mayor looking for a golden pension. The length of time already spent `fixing`OC/LRT is way more than a full blown aircraft crash investigation, yet Ottawa is no nearer to why and how and how to really fix what may be unfixable without a complete redo! Perhaps Andy Haydon was right with RAPID BUS!! even using a tunnel.
I used to be in the Navy and there’s no way anyone would get away with allowing the piece of equipment to be problematic without having a plan. We need to have a plan. Identifying what the issues are and the steps to resolve those issues. I have seen nothing.
And regarding the electric buses, I still wonder about the 500 million dollar gap between what Montreal is spending for infrastructure and what Ottawa is spending for infrastructure for a similar fleet of buses.
The city is built around obfuscution hiding information instead of telling the public what’s going on.
From the 4% tax increase that actually ended up being 12% after the levees are included, to the additional tax increase of around 4% they’re talking about for this year which with levies will be another 12%. Seriously we’re looking at 25% increase in taxes over 2 years, no improvement in services.
