New Ont. Law Could Impact Stittsville
Exhausted. Yes, that is how many residents feel today after spending more than a year-plus keeping a close watch on changes being proposed for Ottawa’s Official Plan and Zoning Bylaws with the hopes of being able to understand how proposed changes will impact our neighbourhoods, our home values, our daily lives etc.
And now added to all of this is the recently passed Ontario government’s Provincial Planning Statement 2024 which aims, among other things, to encourage intensification by expediting housing approval processes, setting new minimum targets for affordable housing etc., number of houses per lots, etc.
Below you will see the first extensive response we have seen from an Ottawa Councillor — and found on Stittsville Councillor Glen Gower’s webpage.

Three cheers to Glen Gower. His comments are clear, concise, and insightful, especially with regards to the impact of provincial guidelines on already-existing city plans. I don’t live in or close to Stittsville but his explanation makes it easy to understand the impact of new provincial guidelines will have on this village. The piece is well-written, unlike the rubbish thrown together by chat bots utilized by senior managers at city hall which drag on until the word limit is reached without making a point. The most important part of his explanation in my opinion occurs when he tells constituents how they can take action and what response they can expect. If I was a resident of Stittsville I’d take advantage of this and hold him to his promise.
Prior to his political career, Glen Gower was a journalist producing clear analyses of government plans and policies. Every so often, it shows.
