New Ways To Bus Chaos

Frequent Bulldog commenter C From Kanata tells a different story of the performance of New Ways To Bus than OC Transpo:

Go to LRT Wrecks on Facebook. There are pictures of desperate people trying to get onto overcrowded buses. Angry people writing in:

From today: I was waiting with about five other people yesterday at the stop in front of the Civic Hospital. We all saw the 85 coming and then it blew right past us. The sign was lit and the driver had passengers inside so, I knew it wasn’t offline, he just kept on going.

Yesterday: Arrived #31 to connect with #38 as the 38 was pulling away … early. Now a 31 minute wait. Suffice to say, the “newwaystobus” sucks. Between route changes/route cancellations, OC’s respect for its customers is zero.

From yesterday: This morning at Carling/Connaught, my regular 57 was a now show. The app said next was in 30 minutes. A 61 and 67 blew past the stop. Took 85 to Lincoln Fields. Got on a packed 200 series which announced a “time delay” in order to keep schedule. Wait to go two stops to Tunney’s when everyone is getting off?

From Today: Amilcar, yeah you with the big fat pay check, your “New ways” are NOT EFFICIENT. This is NOT the way to entice ppl to take public transit. I have been busing from Barrhaven to downtown for more than 10 years, and never encountered this type of disorganized … show. Barrhaven park and ride this morning…8:30 am, both bus shelters packed to capacity. Small bus arrives and it’s already full. I’ve never considered just driving downtown so much as I am now.

New Ways To Bus Going Great …

Driving, carpooling… anything to avoid this.

Unfortunately, the drivers are the faces that are seen by transit users and I’m sure they are getting an earful. This isn’t their doing.

OC Transpo decision makers and (OC Transpo general manager Renee) Amilcar, you should have to commute using public transit to get to and from work for a year to fully understand the issues. Going to meetings, pulling stats, hiring consultants and creating working groups will not solve your problem. And please, please, don’t pose in front of another bus or train with that big smug smile, it’s so insulting …

Monday: Haha, first day trying out the new 85 route and already my bus hasn’t shown up. Shocking.

Monday: My bus had a sign at the old stop… saying the new stop is wayyyy over there… so I went wayyyy over there … only to have the bus stop at the OLD stop hahaha.

Was at Tunney’s, spoke with a special constable at the terminal and he was shaking his head trying not to laugh with this new route system, lots of confusion among drivers and time schedules.

The 81 bayshore @ 3 was a no show.

Yesterday: This isn’t more efficient a lot of these people are crammed into small buses that are packed like sardines. Slim chance you get an accordion bus.

After reading these instances of insanity, I am thankful I am retired … not wanting to be reliant on someone/thing getting me where I needed to be, I drove my own car.
There is something sad to be said when ‘new and improved’ causes untold kaos and leaves a definite sour taste.
How long before yet another head rolls at City Hall? Too long.
